Connect your Shopify store

How to plug your Shopify store into Agents Workshop.

No developer app, no keys to paste.

  1. Sign in to your Agents Workshop account — the one you registered with Agents Workshop (credits and cloud features live there), not your Shopify admin login. “Sign in” on the card takes you to Settings → Account and brings you back afterwards.
  2. On the Connections page, click Connect Shopify on the "Shopify store" card. The store domain is filled in for you (from the brand profile or the store the site position found); if not, type xxx.myshopify.com.
  3. Your browser opens Shopify's own approval page — click Install with the store owner account.
  4. Back in the Workshop, the card shows "Connected": the store name and what it can manage. "Test" double-checks it.

The store key stays on Agents Workshop cloud, not on this computer; the AI asks you with a card before changing products or pages.

  • Account permissions out of date: nothing to do — the workstation refreshes them in the background at startup and when needed. If that fails (e.g. you were signed out elsewhere), the card says your Agents Workshop account needs to sign in again; “Sign in again” takes you to Settings → Account.
  • "Can’t reach Agents Workshop cloud": it already retried once; the question mark shows a cause code. If you use a proxy / VPN, try another node and click “Try again”.
  • "One-click isn't available for this store yet": one-click is open to beta stores for now; once the public app passes Shopify review, any store can use it. Can't wait? Use the "own app" route below.
  • Authorization expired / something missing: click "Re-authorize" and Install again in the browser.

Advanced: use your own Shopify app

That's what "Advanced: use your own Shopify app" on the card opens. Create an app in Shopify's Dev Dashboard, install it on your store, and paste its Client ID and secret here. Shopify's access tokens expire every 24 hours — we renew them ourselves, so you don't have to.

How

  1. Open the Shopify Dev Dashboard (Apps in the partners admin), click Create app, and pick "Custom" as the distribution method.
  2. In the app's version settings, tick these scopes: read/write orders (read_orders / write_orders), read/write returns (read_returns / write_returns), read customers (read_customers), read products (read_products).
  3. On the same page, request Protected customer data access and tick name, email and address. Skip this and orders and customers come back empty — with no error.
  4. Click Install app and pick the store you want to connect. It must be a store in the same organization as the app.
  5. Go back to the app's Settings page and copy the Client ID and Client secret.
  6. Enter your store domain and those two values in the form. The secret stays on this computer only.

FAQ

  • Orders and customers are empty, but nothing errors: almost always step 3 was skipped. Go back to the Dev Dashboard and request protected customer data (name / email / address).
  • Do I re-enter anything when the token expires? No. Tokens last 24 hours and we renew them with the Client ID and secret you gave us.
  • I can't install the app on my store: the app can only go on stores in the same organization. Check that the store and the app belong to the same one.
  • I want the AI to handle customer email: that's a different connection — see Connect a mailbox.
